Tiki Thatch: The First Step To Building A Tiki Bar

Tiki Thatch Rolls

Palm thatch roofing is best known as a material used for tiki hut structures and tiki bars. However, tiki thatch rolls are much more than a decorative accent. Thatch roll is also a renewable resource, a sustainable product whose manufacturing process is simply comprised of hand harvesting, water boiling and drying in the sunshine. Palm thatch rolls, like all natural tiki hut products, are functional and versatile – perfect for insulating outdoor structures on the inside walls, outside walls or roof.

About our Tiki Thatch Rolls

The Tiki Shack Importer carries a large stock of authentic tiki thatch, available in multiple sizes for your convenience. Our fire retardant thatch rolls are made from fresh Mexican palm leaves that have been cured, rolled into strips and woven into sheets before being rolled for undisturbed shipping. The commercial grade palm thatch* is tightly braided on the back side and fringed on the front side, to ensure durability when cutting. This saves you money, as only one layer is needed for most projects. Scroll down to view our entire stock of palm thatch roofing; we will beat any price on new palm thatch, guaranteed!

How to Install Tiki Thatch Rolls

Installing tiki thatch is simple, but the installation method depends on the intended application. For any application, the tiki thatch will require a open air or solid surface; if the application is an existing roof or walls, they will serve as the surface. If the application is a new tiki bar and you desire a circular roof, wrap the tiki thatch in a circular horizontal pattern over cross lath or treated plywood, overlapping 8"-15" all the way up and securing with strong nylon ties. Overlapping 15" will require more material but will look more like our pictures.

When installing on a hip style roof (4 sided roof) create overhang about 1 foot and attach with staple gun or zip ties. Complete all 4 sides then return to all corners cut through rope on the top of thatch roll about half way down then overlap both pieces and staple a lot in this area due to high winds may occur. Repeat all the way to the top. Consider our Hip Roof Cap for roofs with a point.

To install tiki thatch on a flat roof or walls, start by measuring the surface and cutting the thatch rolls to the desired length. Then, attach the base of the thatch panel or roll using a staple gun with at least ½” staples. Laying thatch on a roof or walls requires you to be layer the thatch by stapling the panels so that they overlap. This will ensure no bare spots.

If the tiki thatch rolls will be used in a moist or humid climate, we recommend our thatch sealer to preserve this authentic palm thatch roofing. In many cases, thatch sealer can add up to two years to the life of your thatched roof.
